History

The first idea of an Indonesian student association came up in Fall 2002 from its first three executives. After several months, we managed to invite five more executive members and several pre-members.

Our name Gado-Gado is taken from a famous Indonesian traditional salad. As you all know, salad consists of various kinds of vegetables and this feature symbolizes the multitude of cultures we expect to see from our member as well as the objective of our association: to introduce the multitude of Indonesian cultures to everyone at UBC.

Through the year, our club has planned several events such as members welcoming party, Indonesian Independence day celebration, and other social and cultural events.

Our primary goal in this year is to unify all Indonesian students at UBC and other students who are interested in Indonesian cultures. As a new club, Gado-Gado Indonesian Student Association of UBC may not yet offered a lot of benefits to its members, however, with the hard work of our executives and the support of our future members, we believe that this club will grow faster in the upcoming years.

The other objectives of this club are to provide a supportive environment to Indonesian students at UBC and to provide a chance for cultural exchange between Indonesian and non-Indonesian members.

As last but not least, Gado-Gado Indonesian Student Association of UBC hopes that every of its member can enjoy what this club offers now and in the upcoming years.
